Back to home base

Well the first extended tour went well. We were still alive, work could be done from the RV, we now own another shredder, met interesting people on the way, made new friends and enjoyed our time.

Some snags here and there, expectations at REV not quite fulfilled and another trip to REV, but this time in Indiana where Charlie was built, coming up.

2 last nights in Chattahoochee, Florida and we are back home for the Easter weekend.

Florida has us back.

For the past 2 days we tried to tackle the ant problem and the white powder did not seem to help. A neighbor was under the impression they liked it, well some humans like white powder as well.

So went to the local hardware store and got something heavier. This then took care of the problem. We hate to discourage them to come into the RV, but when you have to deal with several colonies enjoying the inside more than the outside it is time to tackle the problem.

Besides the ducklings we had seen a log floating up and down the bay and thought it to be strange, as there was only one log and in mostly the same spot every day.

Today the log came closer and introduced itself as a crocodile. Wow. This close to civilization and not shy at all.

And just to make sure we all understood that this was not downtown Mobile, Alabama he brought his friend along.

And as if to state that “well, since you mean me no harm”, he decided to leave the water and give us a closer look.

The ducklings did not care and soon he decided to go back into the water as we stopped paying too much attention to him.

So we all settled down and enjoyed another beautiful evening watching the sunset over Mobile, Alabama

This evening, we had visitors from Hamburg across the street, touring in their Unimog

When we decided to come here the first time on our way to Texas we read that there is an ant problem in the park and we purchased some antpowder before heading out here.

During our walks we encountered several sites with lots of white powder on them, so others had had the same experience.

Back in February it was probably too cold as we did not have any ant encounters. This time around we did. Good that we came prepared. White powder all around the tires, the water, sewer and electric lines should help.

Besides the ants, our duck family had young ones and they strolling around every day.

Meaher State Park

On the way to Texas we only stayed here for 2 nights as we had the appointment in Alvarado, Texas set and were on a firm schedule.

But we like it so much, that we stayed booked another 4 nights on the way home. We were looking forward to the sunsets and the good food.

After setting up, we went to the Original Oyster House for some fresh seafood.

And back to digest the dinner and enjoy the view.

And this is what we came here for.

Mississippi to Alabama

Today’s drive would take us away from the Interstates and onto the US Highway system from Florence, MS to Mobile, AL.

From a decent pace on 4 lane roads to a smallish 2 lane portion towards the end and we are back in Alabama, heading towards Mobile, Alabama and Meaher State Park.

Florence, Mississippi

Left Shreveport early, got Charlie washed

and headed for Florence, Mississippi via US highways instead of the Interstate system.

Got to Wendy Oaks RV with another self opening bay door (this time the electric bay) to find out that Wendy had mixed up our reservation. She fixed it in no time (well, 2 hours), we fixed the bay door in less time and spent a quite night on a heavily discounted (due to the mix up) Campground.

Shreveport, Louisiana

On our way back, this time taking the northern route and I-20 through Louisiana as I-10 to the south was more than rough to drive on.

We decided to stay at the KOA and after arrival where surprised that it has a KOA designation.

Not quite so friendly a check in, no guidance to your spot, the normal share of full time guests we have gotten used to. What a difference to the San Antonio KOA.

It has been 2 weeks since the last entry. The week after our San Antonio mission tour was a busy one and spent in the office even though we had a few more things we would have liked to see.

Started going back to drop off the unit at REV in Alvarado, Texas to finish the work started and hoping the spare parts had arrived.

Spent 1 night on the way at I-35 RV Park, convenient, not too noisy but with a torrential rain that blew water through our kitchen window.

Dropped the unit off and spent the week in a hotel. Having lunch at Logans Roadhouse with peanuts as appetizers and the shells on the floor

Was the highlight of that week, as we were very busy again and spent more time in the hotel room then we would have liked.

But Charlie was ready when promised, even though we are still short 2 windows that were supposed to be replaced, but miraculously did not make it to Texas.

Got to REV early and took possession of the unit. As we were heading out we noticed the rear camera was not working. So, slight delay of 2 hours until it was fixed and we were on our way back home.
